How we handle release dates
Donghua scheduling is genuinely messy, and most English-language coverage makes it worse by treating a leaked poster as a confirmation. Our rule here is narrow and boring: a date goes on this page when it comes from the production's own announcement, the streaming platform, or an outlet reporting one of those directly — and we name which. If a date is circulating but unconfirmed, we say it is unconfirmed instead of quietly laundering it into a fact.
That matters more in this medium than in anime. Chinese productions frequently announce a season, go quiet for a year, and then confirm a premiere three weeks out. Dates also move earlier as often as they slip, which is unusual — Link Click's third season is a live example, having landed in mid-August after an earlier autumn estimate had circulated widely.
Where donghua actually airs
Three routes cover most of what an English-speaking viewer can watch legally:
- Bilibili — the primary home for most new domestic premieres. Its international arm and the official Made by Bilibili YouTube channel carry a growing share of titles with English subtitles, though often on a delay of one to two weeks behind the Chinese premiere.
- Crunchyroll — increasingly picks up the biggest donghua for simulcast, which is how Lord of Mysteries reached Western audiences.
- Tencent Video (WeTV) — home to a large slice of long-running cultivation series, with variable English subtitle coverage.
We only point readers to official channels. If a series has no legal English route yet, we say so plainly rather than pretending otherwise — that gap is itself part of the news.
